The Way of Thanks
when the names of those deceased are read aloud. A bell is tolled, a chime is played, or a candle is lit, giving thanks for the lives of those, famous or obscure, who have personally led us to faith.
It also marks Dio de los Muertos, a Mexican celebration when families gather around a home altar of symbols and photographs, candles and marigolds, paying respect and sharing stories - both serious and silly- of those who have died.
This month, may we remember the ones who came before us. May we speak their names and light candles for their lives, labors, and dreams; share stories and give thanks for how they helped us in becoming people of hope, joy, peace, and love.
I pass before me the main springs of my heritage:
The fruits of labors of countless generations who lived before me,
The seers who saw visions and dreamed dreams.
